    Frequently Asked Questions

    What to bring to my first appointment?

    A referral from your GP or other specialists, Medicare, or DVA. workers compensation details, claim number and case manager details, private health fund details, X-rays, Ultrasounds, MRI, CT reports, blood results, or any other relevant information.

    Can you Process my payment through to Medicare?

    Yes. Payment of your account is required in full on the day of your appointment and we can submit your account online to Medicare for immediate processing.

    Do you charge a gap?

    Yes, we charge a GAP for some health funds.  Please discuss this with Liz or Wendy for further information.

    How quickly can I get an appointment?

    We hold a clinic every Monday and Friday. For non-urgent referrals, you will be seen on our next available appointment. We hold clinics every Monday and Friday. If your matter is urgent we will arrange appropriate imaging and tests and Richard will review you usually within 2 weeks.

    I don’t have private health insurance can I still see Professor Richard Carey Smith privately?

    No, We only see private insured patients. If you wish to be seen by Richard in the Public sector, please get your GP to arrange this referral for you.

    I have been told I have a suspicious lump, what now?

    Richard is a specialist in bone and soft tissue tumours and will see you quickly to arrange the appropriate tests for you and to discuss with you the plan. Every week the State Sarcoma Service, based at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital runs a multidisciplinary department meeting where your tests will be discussed with radiologists, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists ensuring the best treatment is given.

    If surgery is required it will be performed at Hollywood Private Hospital or Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

    Will I need physio/exercise rehabilitation?

    Richard will arrange this for you if needed.
